I don't think the Westerman Fritz Strafers episode of boarding a moving train is significantly influencing AR. Everybody did it in those days. Steam train acceleration was very gradual.
In fact, on a train I was on in 1958 in Turkey, there were long station stops to allow passengers to buy refreshments. When the train was ready to leave, the engine blew its whistle and immediately set off - and nobody was left behind.
