Somehow the notion reminds me of William's fortune...

Now which William are we talking about? In chronological order
the following come to mind:
- William the Conqueror - invaded England, suppressed revolts,
changed the law, changed the language, introduced feudalism...
- William of Orange - improved liberty and democracy, patron
of arts and science...
- Just William - imaginative and a romantic, irrepressible,
optimistic, lovable, larger than life leader (a male precursor to
Captain Nancy, Terror of the High Seas)
- William the Pug, companion to Mrs Barrable, effective at
getting out of a sticky spot
- Prince William, eldest son of Charles and Diana
Or were you thinking of another William altogether?
