A Grand Banks-style dory/anchor tackle would fit the bill, but such an arrangement certainly isn't alluded to in the books (for bringing Imp aboard), and given the detailed drawings of the running backstays, what is shown doesn't have the right purchase --unless the fishhook was snared at the foot of the mast and the working end was fast at the chainplate, which seems unlikely, and is not visible in the illustrations.
Note also that in "In the lock" the outboard end of the fall runs to the forward end of the cabin trunk, rather than to the chainplates, as in "All but O.B." Inaccuracy, or accurate representation of changed location over the course of the line's function?
Also that the line does not appear in SW, "Landing the gear".
